PADI Divemaster

Be a leader who mentors and motivates others.  Gain dive knowledge, supervision abilities, and become a role model to divers around the world.

Prerequisites for PADI Divemaster course:

  • PADI Rescue Divers who are at least 18 years old.
  • Emergency First Response Primary and Secondary Care (CPR and First Aid) training
      within the past 24 months.
  • A medical statement signed by a physician within the last 12 months.
  • At least 40 logged dives to begin the course and

 

What will you learn?

The PADI Divemaster course teaches you to be a leader and take charge of dive activities. 
Through knowledge development sessions, water skills exercises and workshops, and hands-on
practical assessment, you develop the skills to organize and direct a variety of scuba diving
activities.  Topics and practical workshops include:

  • The role and characteristics of the PADI Divemaster
  • Supervising dive activities and assisting with student divers
  • Diver safety and risk management
  • Divemaster conducted programs and specialized skills
  • Business of diving and your career
  • Awareness of the dive environment
  • Dive setup and management
  • Mapping an open water site
  • Conducting dive briefings
  • Organizing a search and recovery project and a deep dive
  • Conducting a scuba review and skin diver course
  • Assisting with Discover Scuba Diving and leading Discover Local Diving programs

Your instructor may also offer the PADI Deep Diver and PADI Search and Recovery specialty diver courses along with your divemaster training to help you meet all requirements and to broaden your abilities.

What you need to purchase

In addition to course fees:

  • PADI Dive Master Crew Pack
  • PADI Dive Master elearning
  • PADI Dive Theory elearning

* As a dive professional, you will be required to have all your basic scuba equipment (mask, fins, snorkel, boots, wetsuit, BC, Regulator, Computer, dive knife, and surface signaling device).  During practical skills exercises, like underwater mapping and search and recovery, you will use a compass, floats, marker buoys, lift bags and slates.  Your PADI Instructor may suggest additional gear that will be useful throughout your diving career.

Open water park, travel or lodging fees are also not included.

What can you teach

After becoming certified as a PADI DIVEMASTER you will be authorized to:

  •  Supervise both training and non-training related activities by planning, organizing, and directing dives
  •  Assist a PADI Instructor during the training sessions for any PADI Diver course
  • Conduct the PADI Skin Diver and Discover Snorkeling programs
  • Conduct the PADI Local Diving experience
  • Conduct the Scuba Skills Update course
  • If qualified as a DSD Leader you can conduct the Try Scuba course
  • Independently guide Open Water Diver course students on the tour portion of Open Water Diver Course (Training dives 2,3 and 4 at a ratio of 2 student divers
  • Accompany Open Water Diver students under the indirect supervision of a PADI Instructor during:
       –  surface swims to and from the entry/exit point and during navigational exercises
       –  when the instructor conducts a skill, such as ascent or descent, a Divemaster can remain with other student divers
  • Accompany student divers during Adventure or Specialty training dives under the indirect supervision of a PADI Instructor
  • Conduct subsequent dives under an instructor’s indirect supervision for Discover Scuba Diving (Try Scuba) participants after said student has satisfactorily completed the first dive with a PADI Instructor
  • Teach Emergency First Response courses after successfully completing an Emergency First Response Instructor course.
